Safety Advisory

We are issuing this advisory for all our our Bitcoin customers on LocalBitcoins. If you are new to Bitcoin/LocalBitcoin and have recently started buying Bitcoins in small amounts, please go through this advisory so that you don't loose money. We have seen some of our customers loose money so we are issuing these best practices so that you dont make the same mistake.

1. DO NOT TRANSFER Bitcoins from LocalBitcoins wallet to another wallet.

The most important thing for all new Bitcoin PayTM customers to note is that please try to NOT MOVE your bitcoins from LocalBitcoin site to any other wallet. The reason for this is that the current Bitcoin transfer charges are very high. We are seeing Bitcoin transfer charges vary anywhere from Rs 500 to as much as Rs. 2000 per transaction.

What this means is that if you bought Rs 2500 worth of Bitcoin from us using PayTM and tried to transfer those bitcoins to another wallet outside of LocalBitcoin, you could incur as much as Rs 2000 charge on JUST the transfer. At the end of the transfer you will be left with only Rs 500 worth of Bitcoins in your new wallet because you spent Rs 2000 just on the transaction charge.

If you want to transfer your Bitcoins from LocalBitcoins to another wallet, then please make sure that it is atleast for Rs 20,000 worth. Even then you might still end up loosing upto Rs 2000 on transaction charges, but it might still be ok as it is just 10% of your total amount.

If you are a small investor, we encourage you to keep your Bitcoins in LocalBitcoin site only. This is absolutely free of charge. If you want to sell of your Bitcoins at a later date, you can again use LocalBitcoin to sell and net the profit.

2. Enable Two Factor Authentication (TFA)

If you are planning to keep your bitcoins purchased through PayTM in LocalBitcoins, please be careful in securing your account. Try to choose a secure password and try to NOT login using a cybercafe. The computers in cybercafe's might be hacked so they might steal your password and your Bitcoins. If you are accessing Bitcoins from a third-party computer (like cybercafe), please make sure to ENABLE Two Factor Authentication (TFA). TFA will help you keep your account/bitcoins safe even if your password is stolen by someone.
